Male thorax atrophy, like the Syndrome of Poland or simply thoracic asymmetry. There are rigid silicone prosthesis, specific for the male thorax. They are introduced trough the axilla, consequently the scar stays ridden in it. What does this surgery envolve? The choice of the type and size of the prosthesis is made together with Dc. Yhelda. After that, the procedure is like any other surgical treatment. A rigorous cleaning of the axillas is done. This surgery is made in a well-equipped surgical theater and it requires remaining in a hospital for approximately 10 hours. The incisions measure approximately 10-cm. in each axilla. The stitches are taken off after 15 days. The patient must come back to Dc. Yhelda, for valuation, once a week on the first month, once a month on the second and third months, after 6 months and one year, when he will be definitively discharged. What kind of scar will I have? The scar will be hidden in the axilla,
camouflaged by the hairs. Dc. Yhelda reminds that the scar is peculiar
to each patient, and no doctor may guarantee if it will be normal, keloidian
(thick), hyperchromic or dischromic (dark or whitish).
On the first week, the patients complain of some discomfort, but tolerable, since they are taking an anti-inflammatory. We advise the use of criotherapy (ice bags), for 15 minutes, five times a day. This measure greatly relieves the discomfort. What may go wrong? An infectious process may occur in any surgery, though this is rarely seen in plastic surgeries. If the infection is not immediately overthrown, the prosthesis may be eliminated, but we can put it back again in six months. For the success of any surgery, it is necessary to fulfill with rigor all the cares prescribed for the period after it. These are: correct cleaning of the area operated, to avoid rough movements of the arms, and local trauma, for the next 3 months. You should take the prescribed medication: antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory on the first 7 days, and E-Vitamin, once a month. The use of ice bags on the first 15 days, 5 times a day, promptly reduces swelling and discomfort. What type of anesthesia is it used and how long time does it take? The epidural anesthesia is preferred because it causes fewer traumas. The surgery takes approximately 3 hours. In how long time will I resume my normal activities? In 24 hours you can resume your activities, avoiding rough movements of your arms. Physical activities, exposure to the sun, supporting weight on the thorax, only after 3 months. |
