Increase and Reduction

Increase:

The atrophy of the chin is called hypomentonism. A man without chin usually uses long beard to disguise this defect. We will describe different solutions for this problem.

Reduction:

When a man has a too big chin, he often feels the need to reduce his jaw or his chin.

What does this surgery envolve?

Increase: There are in the market some chin prosthesis made of gel silicone or rigid silicone.

They are introduced through an incision between the teeth and the labial mucous membrane. The chin can also be augmented with PMMA (polimethylmetacrilate), which has also a gel presentation and can be implanted through a micro-cannula.

The surgical reduction and elevation of the thighs is made with a fusiform incision on the inguinal region (groin). The scar will be close to the root of the thigh.

The chin can also be augmented with one’s own fat.

Reduction:

There are several surgical techniques for jaw reduction. In this case it is necessary to fix the teeth (use of a dental fixer) for 40 days. If only the chin is too big, it can be scraped off or part of it cut off. There’s no need to fix the teeth.

What type of anesthesia is it indicated?

To increase the chin with prosthesis implant, we use local anesthesia with sedation. When we implant a product or fat, we just need local anesthesia.

To reduce the jaw, it is necessary general anesthesia. If only the chin is reduced, local anesthesia with sedation will be enough.

How long time does it take?

Increase:

Product implant, 10 minutes. Fat implant, one hour. Prosthesis implant, one and a half hour.

Reduction:

Jaw reduction, approximately 2/3 hours. Chin reduction, approximately one and a half hour.

What happens after the surgery?

Increase:

Severe edema. The patient will have difficulty in eating solid food. He will complain of a discrete discomfort on the first week.

Reduction:

Severe edema. If the jaw is reduced, he will be fed only with liquid food, for the next 40 days.

Chin reduction and chin increase require similar cares.

what cares should i take after the surgery?

Increase:

In the case of prosthesis, you can only eat paste or liquid food for the first 7 days. You should use criotherapy (ice bags) for 15 minutes, 5 times a day. Avoid trauma (kissing) for 15 days.

Jaw reduction:

You should be fed trough a straw, with liquid food, for 40 days.

Chin reduction:

You can eat paste or liquid food for the first 7 days. Use criotherapy. You should also take antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory, for 7 days.
